In December 2021 Vaccitech acquired Avidea Technologies with exciting product candidates for oncology and autoimmunity based on the innovative SNAPvax platform, which has demonstrated unprecedented control over T cell induction. This gives us US operational presence in Maryland, complements Vaccitech’s established capabilities and reinforces our position as a fast-growing global leader in immunotherapies and vaccines. From March 2022 Vaccitech's UK headquarters will be moving to a state-of-the-art facility in the UK's leading science and innovation campus at Harwell. We conduct research globally and have ambitious plans in the UK and US, where we will continue to grow our teams over the coming months and years.


The role

 

Reporting to the Director of Vector Production the Vector Production Scientist will be responsible for the manufacture and analysis of viral vectors as part of the Viral Vector Production team at Vaccitech. The role of the team is to ensure high quality production of viral-vectored vaccines for GMP manufacture and pre-clinical work. The role will be primarily laboratory-based work. The Scientist will play an integral role production of viral vectors using cell-culture based systems. The Scientist will ensure that the studies, tests, and procedures performed in the laboratory follow quality procedures for all aspects of work. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Conduct laboratory work involved in the construction, growth, and evaluation of viral vector vaccine candidates
  • Assist in ordering supplies, making reagents, and maintaining the laboratory in order to conduct necessary experiments
  • Maintain and evaluate both mammalian and bacterial cell cultures for growth conditions, DNA purification and viral vector production
  • Assist in studies to optimize the ability to manufacture viral-vectored vaccines, such as evaluation of alternative systems, host or vector gene deletions or insertions, viral culture yield, systems for viral growth, etc.
  • Evaluate and perform analytic assays to determine the quality, yield, stability, etc. of specific candidates or of specific manufacturing process conditions
  • Work under Vaccitech quality conditions, following technical Standard Operating Procedures
  • Ensure that the laboratory and activities comply with Vaccitech quality standards and that all results produced are documented, reviewed, and presented appropriately.
  • Participate in the development and conduct of laboratory meetings

 

What we can offer you

 

The successful candidate will be degree educated in a life science discipline and have a minimum of three years’ experience in a laboratory working with adherent and suspension cell culture systems. You will have experience in bacterial cell culture for generation of plasmid DNA as well as experience in routine QC testing methods (standard PCR, SDS-PAGE, uv spectroscopy etc.)

 

It is beneficial to be proficient in conducting QC using a variety of additional methodologies e.g., qPCR, DNA sequencing, virus quantification by titration, western blot. Similarly, proficiency in conducting viral vector production using cell culture-based systems is also advantageous.
